FAQs

How does therapy work?

Therapy works by creating a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore and address their concerns. The therapist provides tools, techniques, and feedback to help clients better understand and manage their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

How long does therapy last?

The length of therapy can vary depending on the individual's needs and goals. Some people may benefit from short-term therapy, while others may require long-term support.

What should I expect from my first therapy session?

In your first therapy session, you can expect to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and your goals for treatment. We will better understand and ask questions about your background/current situation to gain a better understanding of your needs. Towards the end of your session, we will create a treatment plan based on your goals and needs.

What should I look for in a therapist?

It's important to find a therapist who is licensed, experienced, and has expertise in the areas you are seeking help with. You should also look for a therapist who makes you feel comfortable and supported.

What is your out of pocket rate per session?

$130/session

Do you accept insurance?

I am currently in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Health Care, and Ambetter.

What types of therapy are available?

There are many types of therapy available, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, solution-focused therapy, trauma-focused, and exposure therapy, among others. Each type of therapy offers a different approach and may be better suited for specific types of concerns or conditions. We will use which ever approach that caters best to your needs

Do I have to be diagnosed with a mental health condition to go to therapy?

No, therapy is not just for people who have been diagnosed with a mental health condition. Therapy can be beneficial for anyone who is struggling with life challenges or seeking personal growth.

Will therapy make me feel better right away?

Therapy is a process and it may take time to see significant changes. Each individual's journey is unique and the length of time is difficult to determine.

Do I have to talk about my past in therapy?

Not necessarily. While past experiences can influence current thoughts and behaviors, therapy can focus on the present and help you develop strategies for coping with current challenges.

How can I know if therapy is working?

You may notice improvements in your mood, behavior, or relationships, or you may feel more empowered and in control of your life. Your therapist may also use assessments or feedback to track progress and determine if therapy is working for you. We will continue to check in throughout your sessions to ensure your needs are being met and touch base towards your treatment plan

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

How long will it take?

Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
